General build information

Because rivers enter many cells will be built by many modders and need to connect cell by cell.  SinisterDeath had problems with the map editor and could not make the rivers show in the map.  It would have saved a lot of time if the map editor would do this.  We will probably need a lot of extra work by a single modder to connect everything.  No other modder should be working on those exterior cells when the rivers are corrected.

Arinelle River

  • Whitebridge is the only bridge crossing the Arinelle River south of Maradon in Saldaea. The river is a frequent route of traders. (I: 261)
  • there are no rocks in the Arinelle, but areas of shallows and shoals. (I: 352)
  • on route south on Arinelle, there is a half mile area of bluffs completely carved with 100 feet tall regal figures. (I: 355)
  • ten days boat ride north of Whitebridge on Arinelle, you can spot a tower of shining steel in the distance. It is 200 feet tall and has no visible opening. (I: 355-356)
  • the west side of the Arinelle is forested, the east is plains dotted with thickets and copses. (I: 329)
  • two day's walk northeast from the Arinelle is an area of thickly-forested hills, another day further the hills flatten. (I: 336)

TEotW, Chapter 22, pg 329 (paperback)

On the east side of river after crossing from Shadar Logoth.
This side of the Arinelle lacked the thick forest of the west bank.  Clumps of trees spotted across what would be grassland if spring ever came.  Some were big enough to be called thickets, with swathes of evergreens among the barren ash and alder and hardgum.  Down by the river the stands were smaller and not so tight. They gave poor cover, but they were all the cover he needed.

....willow trees

....The scanty trail led him straight away from the river to a dense stand of trees, thick with leatherleaf and cedar that made a wall against wind or prying eyes.  The spreading branches of a lone hemlock towered in the middle of it all.

TEotW, Chapter 24, pg 352 (paperback)

These next quotes come from the trip downriver on the boat.  They are many miles downstream from Shadar Logoth.
...There were no rocks to fear in the Arinelle, but shallows and shoals there were aplenty.

pg 355

In the middle of the first day, the Arinelle ran between high bluffs that stretched for half a mile on either side.  For that whole length the stone had been cut into figures, men and women a hundred feet tall, with crowns proclaiming them kings and queens.  No two were alike in that royal procession, and long years separated the first from the last.  Wind and rain had worn those at the north end smooth and almost featureless, with faces and details becoming more distinct as they went south.  The river lapped around the statues' feet, feet washed to smooth nubs, those that were not gone completely.

Another time, when the eastward shore had become flat grassland again...the sun glinted off something in the distance...  "A tower of metal. " ... "Shining steel, by the look and feel of it, but no a spot of rust.  Two hundred feet high, it be, as big around as a house, with no a mark on it and never an opening to be found.
